Dr. Paul M. Bizzaro will offer CardioRisk Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) testing on October 7 at his Yardley office. The painless, noninvasive, ultrasound exam takes approximately 15 minutes, requires no radiation or disrobing, and examines the carotid arteries for signs of thickening and plaque.

CIMT testing provides an image-based look at arterial health and may reveal early changes associated with atherosclerosis before symptoms occur. The findings can give patients and their healthcare providers additional information to consider when evaluating cardiovascular risk and developing an appropriate prevention plan.

Those that may wish to discuss testing with their provider include adults ages 30 and older and individuals with a family history of heart attack or stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, elevated LDL or low HDL cholesterol, excess weight, a history of smoking, limited exercise, sleep apnea, chronic inflammation or gum disease. Heart attacks and strokes can occur without warning, making an informed conversation about personal risk especially important.
